Since my library is doing "Read to the Rhythm" for our Summer Reading Program theme, I wanted to get in on some Superhero fun, so this past Wednesday we had a Superhero Storytime!

Action Rhyme: "Superman" from Storytime Katie
Put your hands way up high (raise arms up in air)
Like Superman flying across the sky (assume flying position)
Fly to the left, now fly to the right (lean to your right, then left)
Now show me your muscles with all your might,(make arm muscles)
Now Superman’s putting his suit away (bring arms down slowly)
So he can go flying another day (rest hands in lap)
Book 3: Princess Super Kitty by Antoinette Portis
Songs: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star/ABCs/Itsy Bitsy Spider
Flannelboard: "Five Superheroes" from Jbrary

I got the inspiration from this song to make my own superheroes for a flannel board version of this song! I also loved the superhero finger puppets I found from Kathy at Bird's Books so I mimicked my flannel pieces to look like hers! I made Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and then I ran out of time and used Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from another one of my flannel board games. A volunteer made Spiderman for me!
Activity 3: Sticky Sticky Bubblegum --> which is becoming a staple in storytime!
Activity 4: Superhero, Superhero from Sunflower Storytime
Superhero, Superhero, turn around
Superhero, Superhero, touch the ground
(make up verses: put on your suit/boots; jump up high/fly, fly, fly, etc.)

Storytime this day was kind of crazy! I wanted to make it through five books, but the kids were more interested in moving around and dancing, so, that's what we did! They still seemed to enjoy themselves, and they loved pretending to be superheroes! Princess Super Kitty was definitely the favorite book this week.
