Hi all! So, I'm really excited! Lots of things are happening and coming up, so I'm just going to talk about it here, because, why not? A few quick things: To begin, my brother-in-law's sister ('s sons, best friend's, dog, etc...) dyed my hair purple last night! Ooooh, Aahhh. I'm pretty excited about it! I'm also pleased that so many of my coworkers love it, which is an added bonus! Then, this afternoon when I got to work, I found I had received a copy of Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson (and sent FROM Laurie Halse Anderson) which was translated into Hebrew. It is so fantastic! I am totally geeking out about it! Thank goodness for authors being on Twitter! After all of that excitement to start my day, I am currently gearing up for my first ever ALA Midwinter conference! I'll be volunteering Friday night at the National Storytelling Network Booth from 5:30 - 7pm, so stop on by and say hello! I have to work at my library on Saturday, so I'll be back at ALA on Sunday to actually go to some programs/events, so if anyone has any suggestions of good things that I definitely need to see -- please let me know! So far, I'm planning on (hopefully) hearing Levar Burton speak, going to Guerrilla Storytime, a Power Up Storytime session, and then a Young Children, Libraries, and New Media session. So definitely, any suggestions would be great! And I would love to meet as many of you as possible! :) (Bolding this because friendship.) Beyond all of that craziness, I start my first storytime sessions next week in my new position! Mondays I will have a Literacy Lapsit/Baby Storytime, and every other Saturday I will be holding a toddler storytime. I am so excited because Storytime is probably my favorite part of being a librarian -- plus I was able to have a really nice googlechat with Lindsey and Dana from Jbrary about how to make my baby storytime the best it can be! They gave me a lot of great ideas and confidence. I've also been perusing baby storytime info from Miss Meg, Mel's Desk, Hi Miss Julie, and Abby the Librarian. I don't know what I would do without all of these great resources, and I cannot wait to start this new adventure! In the future, I will be posting my actual storytime plans and how the storytime went, so again, think good thoughts for me about my upcoming storytime sessions! Hope to see you all at ALA Midwinter 2015! -Julia | |

Hello All! Welcome to my first Blog Post at "Miss Julia's Life in the Library." I'm Julia and if you want to find out some about me, check out my "About" section -- but what you really need to know is that I love ALL things storytime and I hope to focus on those aspects of my library life, for the most part. There are SO many great storytime blogs out there, and I've probably perused all of them, and have used many things from other storytime librarians in my own storytimes -- so THANK YOU! I think my favorite part of librarianship is that we are all willing to help each other out and share ideas. So, this is my forum to share some of my ideas! Along with storytime, I love storytelling, listening to audiobooks (I just finished all of the Harry Potter audiobooks this past summer, and if you haven't given them a listen, please DO! Jim Dale is amazing!), singing, pop-culture, feminism, cats (and cat videos, of course), tweeting, and crafting (because who doesn't love a good craft). So, this is it for now. My storytime sessions in my new Youth Services Librarian position (which I started this past December) begin next week! Please think good thoughts for me, and wish me luck! -Miss Julia |
