Our Summer Reading Program kicked off on Saturday, June 13th, and my workload has been NONSTOP since! I've had programs every day since Monday, so I just wanted to give some quick highlights about the programs I've done, and then I will write some more in-depth posts when I get the chance!
Monday: Book Babies Storytime (for ages 0-24 months)
I was so happy to have two new families join Book Babies today! This program is a little bit inconsistent for me, regarding the people who show up. So far, though, I've had at least one baby every week. So I count that as a positive.
Monday: Preschool Outreach
I went to a local preschool with Miss Maddy and did three 20-minute storytimes for a total of 6 preschool classes. It was so much fun!
Tuesday: Music and Movement Storytime
I did a special evening storytime, based off of Miss Meg's Music and Movement program! I had 10 kids come, and we had a blast dancing and singing -- especially to some Kidz Bop songs!
Wednesday: All ages storytime
This is a regular program we have every Wednesday and it has been getting really packed this summer! A lot of day care groups come in to enjoy storytime. Last week we talked about colors, and this week I decided to stay with the "Music and Movement" theme. Again, we had a blast!
Thursday: Musical Bingo
At a library I worked at previously, Bingo was a huge hit in the summer, so I decided to do some Musical Bingo to fit with our Summer Reading theme -- Read to the Rhythm! I made my own Bingo Cards and played instrument sounds (while also calling out the instrument name and sometimes having them guess what instrument they were hearing), and we played 9 rounds of Bingo in an hour -- not too shabby. I had 18 patrons playing Bingo -- and for a new program, I thought this was a pretty good turnout!
So, that's been my week so far. Really hectic, but a lot of summer reading fun! I'm hoping to write some more in depth posts about these events this weekend, but wanted to make sure I touched on everything that I did this week.
